Nancy Uttendorfer

Communication Department Head

Nancy serves as the Head of the Communication Department at the Center for Spectrum Services, where she is responsible for the training, supervision, and support of skilled Speech and Language Pathologists at both the Kingston and Ellenville locations. Additionally, Nancy provides Clinical Fellowship supervision to recent graduates beginning their careers in Speech-Language Pathology.

Since joining Spectrum Services in 1984, Nancy has developed a distinctive and award-winning expertise in employing a variety of strategies to enhance multi-modal communication skills among students. She is also adept at helping students expand their food preferences through sensory and play-based food exploration activities.
Nancy earned her M.S. in Communication Disorders from the State University of New York at New Paltz in 1988.

She holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and is licensed in Speech-Language Pathology in New York State. Her significant contributions to the Speech-Language-Hearing Association of the Hudson Valley (SHAHV) include a fourteen-year tenure as the ASHA Continuing Education Administrator.

In recognition of her exemplary work, Nancy received the Golden Apple Award from the Speech-Language-Hearing Association in 2012. She has also been honored with the Exemplary Service to Individuals with Special Needs award from the Council for Exceptional Children.

Under her leadership, the Communication Department consistently attracts talented and innovative professionals. Nancy finds great fulfillment in cultivating meaningful relationships with the many staff members, as well as the students and families she has the privilege to serve.
