DASA Training

A six-hour Training in Harassment, Bullying, Cyberbullying & Discrimination in Schools: Prevention and Intervention. This is a New York State Education Department approved coursework training. The cost is $75 for the full, two day training. Limited seating available Please register early! You must attend both days to receive workshop credit.

This training meets the NYS Education training requirement for professionals applying for certificates or licensure, including, but not limited to teaching assistants, classroom teachers, school counselors, school psychologists, school social workers, school administrators or supervisors, and superintendents of schools. The Dignity for All Students Act was developed to afford all students in public schools an environment free from harassment, bullying and discrimination.

This training is designed to enhance understanding of diversity and multi-cultural environments and examine personal biases. Participants will learn about bullying, cyberbullying, harassment and discrimination as well as indicators, early warning signs, prevention and reporting procedures. Group activities and supporting video will be presented to sensitize participants to the experiences of specific populations and emphasize how school climate and culture have an impact on student achievement and behavior.

Our Expert Trainers:

Cheryl N. Engel, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist who specializes in Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).  She has worked as a School Psychologist in public schools in New York and as a clinical psychologist in various clinic setting for years over 16 years.  Dr. Engel is currently employed as a Clinical/School Psychologist and is the Head of the Clinical Department at the Center for Spectrum Services, where she provides counseling, social skills and behavioral support services to students and transdisciplinary evaluations.  In addition, she provides specialized training to staff and serves on the Center for Spectrum Services leadership team.  Dr. Engel is approved by the New York State Education Department as a provider of training in the needs of children with autism and is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA).
Sandra Brownsey, MA CAS is the Program Coordinator at Center for Spectrum Services in Ellenville. Prior to this role, she worked with children, families and teachers throughout the Hudson Valley providing Special Education services, trainings and workshops. In addition to DASA, Sandra presents the NY State Education workshop: Introduction to Autism. Sandra is a passionate advocate for high quality education for students with special learning needs.
