Understanding the Self-Direction Program through OPWDD

June 4, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Presented by Jennifer Strano – Self Direction Coordinator – OPWDD (Office of Persons with Developmental Disabilities) is a New York State program that provides supports and resources for the families of individuals with developmental delays. These services may include such things as respite, social, recreational, home modifications, supplies and service coordination. This can help pay for services or items that are not covered through your child’s educational program. The Self-Direction program is relatively new and provides a different way of managing these services such as developing a budget, choosing the mix of supports and services that work best for you, and using the staff and/or organizations that provide them. Jennifer will describe this program, the application and development process, eligibility, and the difference between Self Direction and the more traditional services offered through OPWDD.
