Phtos by students with autism who attend Center for Spectrum Services in Kingston, and who participate in its “Through the Lens of Autism” program. This unique photography program is particularly beneficial to students with autism.

Taught by Deborah DeGraffenreid, a local professional photographer specialized in working with children with special needs, the program is currently entering its eighth year. With the lens of a camera, these special children who participate can share how they see the world in their own unique way.

Many Spectrum Services students show a high aptitude for artistic ability, and with it, an amazing ability to translate their particular views of the world into their own photography. It allows the artist to express his or herself freely, while using the lens of a camera and not having to rely on the heavy constraints of verbal communication.
