Summer Autism Training Institute 2019

Presented by Spectrum Services staff, this 4-part workshop series is designed to provide teachers, therapists, and other educational professionals with an understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis/Verbal Behavior, visual supports, and language development strategies.

We will discuss and demonstrate the application of key behavioral principles and how they play out into increasing positive behaviors. Hands-on activities and video examples will add to the discussion and give participants specific strategies to incorporate into the classroom, therapy session or home.

While the curriculum of this series will focus on universal behavioral principles across the life span, Ellenville will focus on examples for preschool and young elementary aged students. In Kingston the focus will be on older elementary students through young adolescence. After choosing a site, participants should plan to attend all 4 sessions.

Presentation topics for both sites will include:

• An in-depth understanding of the characteristics of autism and how it presents across developmental domains.
• Prioritizing and implementing learning objectives across disciplines – communication, social skills and emotional regulation, sensory-motor, and self-help skills.
• Understanding the principals of Applied Behavior Analysis and their application within the classroom, home, and clinical setting.
• Understanding the form and function of interfering behaviors and implementing positive behavioral supports.
• Strategies for developing a functional behavioral assessment and intervention plans.
• Creating a therapeutic environment in the classroom, home, or clinical setting.
• Supporting the needs of the individual within the group context.
