Reopening Schedule & Calendar – 8/17/2020

Dear Parents,

As you know by now, Governor Cuomo has announced that schools can reopen in September. Center for Spectrum Services is planning on reopening on Tuesday September 8 for a staff inservice day and from Wednesday through Friday September 9-11, we will be providing daily remote learning to all our students while we prepare for a safe in-person student arrival the following week.

The 2020-2021 calendar can be viewed by Clicking Here. On Monday 9-14, we will begin our Monday/Tuesday A schedule and our Thursday/ Friday B schedule for students. Wednesdays will be a day of remote instruction for all students. On the days your child receives remote instruction, we will provide at least one half hour session of long distance learning with teachers or therapists.

It was wonderful to have so many parents at last Wednesday’s virtual Town Hall Meeting. We have sent you a link to the video of the meeting through School Messenger in case you missed it. Two more virtual town halls are scheduled for this week where we will be sharing important information from our 2020-2021 parent handbook. Leah Siuta, head of our family services department, will be the presenter and we will be there to help answer any questions that may come up. The same information will be presented on both days. Invitation links below, but we will also be sending the links to the Zoom meetings by school messenger.

Tuesday August 18 7:30-9:00PM: https://centerforspectrumservices.zoom.us/j/98070259452
Friday August 21 9:00-10:30AM: https://centerforspectrumservices.zoom.us/j/98695176737

Now that we have the final count of requests for remote only instruction, we are busily working on dividing the in-person students into the A and B schedules. We will share this important information with you, your school districts and your bus companies this week along with a link to a list of questions and answers we have been collecting. It is not too late to send us questions by email reopening@centerforspectrumservices.org or ask them next week at our Town Hall Meetings.

Even if you have chosen our blended learning model, long distance learning will continue to be an important part of your child’s weekly program. Later this week, a school messenger link to a Technology and Internet Access Survey will give us an overview of your family’s technology status.  Please complete this short survey promptly so we may better understand how to best teach your child on remote learning days.

The decision whether to return to in-person education has been an important and challenging journey  for both you and for us. With you, we will be monitoring the safety of our plan on an ongoing basis.

More than ever, we are all in this together.

Our best,

Jamey Wolff, Program Director, and Susan Buckler, Administrative Director
