Delayed Start to In-School Classes 8/20/2020

August 20, 2020

Dear Parents,

After much thoughtful discussion and because staff and student safety must always be our over-arching  concern, we write this letter to inform you that we will be delaying the beginning of  in-person student services until the week of Monday, Oct 5th. This decision comes after in depth consideration of the need to secure adequate supplies of PPE, appropriate staff training in new safety protocols, and safe classroom/building readiness with emerging input from the Ulster County COVID task force.

For our in-person students and their families, we know this decision may not be a welcomed one. We apologize, in advance, for further disruption in your family routine. We deeply appreciate your continued flexibility and support as we navigate through this unprecedented time.

Therefore, as you can see from our revised calendar, remote learning for all students will still begin on Wednesday, Sept 9th,, but now continue through Friday, October 2nd. Students attending Session A will begin in-person on Monday, Oct 5th and Session B will begin in-person on Thursday, Oct 8th. If you opted for remote only, the two month period will also begin October 5th.

Our next virtual town hall is scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, August 21st at 9:00 AM. In addition to the discussion of our delay in the start of in-person opening, Leah Siuta, head of our family services department, will be presenting again on our 2020-2021 parent handbook. We want to be able to answer your questions, so please join us. If you miss the meeting, a link will be sent to you next week with the video of Friday’s meeting.

This Zoom link will also be sent tomorrow before the meeting:
Fri., August 21 9:00-10:30AM https://centerforspectrumservices.zoom.us/j/98695176737.

This decision was very difficult! As Susan said at our last Town Hall, “We miss your children.” We really do! We want to welcome them back to school in the safest, most prepared way we can.  Thank you for your patience, understanding and trust.

Hope to see many of you tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Jamey Wolff, Program Director, and Susan Buckler, Administrative Director
