Tip's From The Nurse’s Office

By Dan Uttendorfer, RN

Are you aware that colds, flu, bronchitis and most sore throats are caused by viruses? Did you know that
antibiotics do not help fight viruses? It’s true. Plus, taking an antibiotic when you have a virus increases your risk of getting an infection later that resists antibiotic treatment.  When a doctor prescribes an antibiotic for you or your child, make sure that it is taken exactly as directed. Complete the course even if you are feeling better. If treatment stops too soon, some bacteria may survive and re-infect you.

Remember, antibiotics are effective against bacterial infections, not viral infections.

Have a healthy and happy winter
