Many of your daily activities can reinforce math skills that your child is learning at school. The next time you are completing some of your household chores, think about including your child in them. Some ideas for activities:

Matching/Sorting:
While doing laundry, matching socks, sorting light/dark clothing, or putting clothing away in (labeled) drawers.
When emptying the dishwasher, sorting silverware into the kitchen drawer

1:1 Correspondence:
Matching items to a grocery list (picture/written), setting the table (using a placemat jig), handing out cups, napkins or snack items to each member of the family

Money:
Matching coins to a jig, identifying coins and coin values
While shopping, reading prices in the store, making purchases,
calculating change, determining if you have enough money to purchase an item

Time:
Matching time to regularly occurring activities, telling time on an analog/digital clock, and determining how much time until an activity starts and/or ends

Comparisons:
While taking a walk, identifying more/less, big/small, light/dark, long/short, hot/cold

Measurement:
While making dinner, measuring ingredients during food preparation

Counting:
Counting squares on a gameboard, counting out number of items to pass out to family members, counting during food preparation

Calendar Skills:
Locating holidays/special days, reinforcing the month/days of the week, counting the days on the calendar.
