Cheryl Hayes, Psychologist / Clinical Department Head

You may be wondering to yourself, “Who are these Family Service Coordinators (FSC) and psychologists and what do they actually do with my child?”  Our FSC are your liaison between home and school and our psychologists are responsible for ensuring that your child’s behavioral needs are appropriately addressed in the classroom.

Many of our FSC and psychologists provide psychological counseling to some students, either individually or in small groups.  For some children, counseling may include play-based therapy.  Goals for the classroom and for counseling sessions emphasize social engagement, joint attention, establishing and maintaining eye-contact and turn-taking.  In addition, our goal as therapists is to experience shared enjoyment with your children.

As a whole, these goals address the core deficits associated with Autistic Spectrum Disorders.  Most importantly, when a “connection” is made with a child, the reward is great for all!
