Kingston, NY-January 21, 2010—The Center for Spectrum Services (formerly The Children’s Annex) has been featured in the most recent issue of Autism Advocate, the official publication of the Autism Society of America. The article, entitled “Building Blocks to Successful Transition,” focuses on the protocol put in place by the Center to help students with autism better transition between classes, between buildings and to new programs.
The Center was awarded an Effective Practices Grant from the New York State Education Department for the transition strategies incorporated into this protocol.
The two-page article was written by Jamey Wolff, M.A., CAS, co-founder and Program Director for the Center for Spectrum Services and Leah Siuta, MPS, the head of Family Services and Coordinator of Community-Based Services at the Center.
The magazine also featured a partial transcription from The Asperger’s Difference: for and about young people with Asperger Syndrome. Recently produced and currently sold by the Center for Spectrum Services, the educational dvd is designed to help families and professionals support young people with Asperger’s in building self-awareness, self-esteem and self-advocacy skills.
