SPECTRUM SERVICES STUDENTS CELEBRATE DIVERSTIY

August, 2010 - Ellenville, New York – Center for Spectrum Services students in Ellenville are proudly displaying a new triptych of murals with the common theme of “Diversity”. Students with autism ages 3 – 8 in each of the three Ellenville classrooms worked together with Assistant Teacher and summer volunteer Donna Cleary to paint their own 3’x5’ murals, which have been installed together in the school’s playground, making a chain link fence into an art gallery.

Tito Walsh of Walsh Signs and Graphics, who consulted on this project, said “The beautiful thing about this is the boards can be sanded and reused, so the children can paint on them again and again.” Spectrum Services is grateful to Walsh Signs, as well as for generous donations received from Williams Lumber and Home Center in High Falls, Slutsky Lumber in Ellenville, and Napa (Powers) Auto Supply of Kerhonkson, which has helped to brighten the lives of people with autism, all of whom contributed to the project.

“It’s been a colorful, creative summer for students at Center for Spectrum Services in Ellenville,” says school Coordinatorr Mimi Werner, adding “Donna has helped the children to collaborate on some beautiful work.” Donna herself is more demure, saying “I just do it for the enjoyment of the kids.”
