New York State Education Department approved coursework training in autism
The Center for Spectrum Services is approved by New York State Education Department as an approved provider of coursework in the needs of students with autism.
The Approved Autism Coursework Training will be offered:
Tuesday June 8th 2010, 4:00 - 7:00pm
Location: The Center for Spectrum Services, 70 Kukuk Lane, Kingston, NY 12401 Cost: $55.00
Course Overview This course will provide an overview of Autism Spectrum Disorders and effective treatment practices. A review of diagnostic categories, etiology, and current research will establish the foundation for this course. Key factors that impact individuals within an educational setting will be discussed (e.g. communication, social skills, executive functioning, sensory, and behavioral characteristics) and support strategies and evidence based teaching methodologies will be presented. Participants will be introduced to functional behavior assessments and how they are used to develop positive behavioral support plans.
This Training is appropriate for:
- Certified administrators newly assigned to special education positions
- Those applying for special education certification through the individual transcript evaluation process
- Those applying for a special education certificate through the SED TEACH system
- Parents, professionals or anyone else interested in learning more about autism
Presented by: Dr. Adriane Maier Adriane Maier, Ph.D. BCBA, LMHC. is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and Clinical Consultant who specializes in Autism Spectrum Disorders. She has an extensive background in providing counseling, social skills training and behavioral support services to students on the spectrum within clinical, home-based and school settings. Dr. Maier is trained in both applied behavior analytic and verbal behavior teaching methodologies and has designed individual education programs for students throughout New York State. Dr. Maier is presently working as the Head Clinical Consultant at The Children’s Annex Clinic where she conducts comprehensive evaluations for Autism Spectrum Disorders for people of all ages, teaches specialized workshops on best practices and provides educational consultation to school districts and agencies.

Register with Mid-Hudson Teacher Center. Go to www.mhtc.dcboces.org and click on "online registration" and enroll in Understanding Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
