Spectrum Services Fall 2017 Workshop Series
Family members, caretakers, professionals, and paraprofessionals are invited to sign up for our Fall Workshop Series. These include "A Child's Work is Play," and two workshops on "Challenging Behavior" are being offered, and it is recommended that attendees who take part 1, should also take part 2.


Workshop Costs (See Below to Register)
These workshops are offered at no charge to family members of individuals with ASD and their primary caregivers. For professionals and para-professionals, the workshops are 
40.00, with a discounted $100 for all 3.

A Child’s Work is Play - Thursday, November 9th, 2017 4:00 - 7:00 Presented by Sandra Brownsey, MS CAS In this workshop we will discuss strategies for children with limited language and/or limited skills and interests and we’re going to examine the important role of play in the lives of our children and students. 

Look at different types of play ~ Discuss ways to foster and expand repertoires of play skills ~ Discuss toys, games and activities for all levels of learners ~ Discuss and demonstrate strategies to engage and interact regardless of the current skill level of the student ~ Identify activities that are done with items found around your house or classroom ~ Bring your fun side and get ready to play!

Addressing Challenging Behaviors: Focusing on Positive Behavior Supports ~ Part 1 - Wednesday, November 15th, 2017 4:00 - 7:00 Presented by Tiffany Francese-Sears, Behavior Intervention Specialist In this workshop attendees will gain tools to help create a positive living and learning environment for an individual with autism.

Participants in this workshop will learn: Evidence based positive behavior support strategies ~ To identify function of behavior ~ To use reinforcement as an integral component of all teaching programs ~ To identify appropriate replacement behaviors ~ To understand how to use and analyze data ~ To understand antecedent and consequence strategies ~ Strategies on how to decrease challenging behavior ~ As part of this workshop case studies and activities will be provided to enhance learning.

Prevention Is The Best Intervention: De-escalating Challenging Behaviors ~ Part 2 - Thursday, November 16th, 2017 4:00 - 7:00 Presented by Tiffany Francese-Sears, Behavior Intervention Specialist Part 2 of this workshop will help attendees to manage challenging behaviors when they occur. Challenging behaviors can be prevented when participants understand the risk and protective factors in the child’s life by creating a more responsive environment. Participants in this workshop will learn:

Strategies for de-escalating crisis when they occur ~ The seven phases of challenging behavior ~ Help recognize signs that behaviors may turn serious ~ Effective strategies to use when challenging behaviors do occur. Participants are strongly encouraged to take both Part 1 and Part 2 of the series.
